What is DNS?
Last updated 4 months ago
DNS stands for Domain Name System and is a service that is used to resolve domain names into IP addresses.
People are familiar with domain names such as hosthis.ch. Computers, on the other hand, only understand IP addresses, which they use to communicate with other computers on the network.
Because people can remember letters more easily than numbers, a system is required to convert hosthis.ch into 84.16.88.222. This allows a computer to find the appropriate server, which can then take the user to the correct website for hosthis.ch.
